Walk Now for Autism Speaks 2010

Do you know that Every 20 minutes, another family receives the devastating news that their child has autism??? My cute nephew is autistic, everytime I see him I only have one question 'why him?' . Well no one has answer for that... But there is definitely one thing I can do - to support to autism research thru this Autism Speaks' Walk..

Autism Speaks' Walk Now for Autism Speaks, the nation's largest grassroots autism walk program, is signature fundraising and awareness event, taking place in communities across the United States, as well as in Canada and the United Kingdom.
Powered by volunteers and families with loved ones on the autism spectrum, this successful grassroots fundraising effort not only generates vital funds for autism research but also raises awareness about the increasing prevalence of autism and the need for increased research funding to combat this complex disorder.

I am lucky that this event is in my city and I am definitely registering for this event.

Safest Ways to Donate to Haiti Earthquake

As we all know, on January 12 2010, a devasting earthquake measuring 7.0 magnitude stuck Haiti. The death toll is estimated at 200000.There are still thousands of people trapped, and left many homeless.

I exactly know how this can feel like, as I have faced earthquake myself when I was in Gujarat,India during January 26 2001. This is a time when you put your "life into perspective" -like what is worth, what is not.

Everyone is trying to make his best effort to help Haitian in all possible ways. Social networking sites have helped a lot in spreading the importance of donation.

I also urge you to contribute as much as you can!!!

I heard in news, that donations to Haiti could be tax deductible for year 2009 eventhough you make donation in 2010. So if you already know the tax you owe to IRS, you have choice of donating it Haiti rather than paying back to IRS.

There are many ways to donate to Haiti. But please beware of scams out there that may take advantage of your money. I would suggest you to donate to only well-reputed organization/group to be on safer side.

Here are some listing for you!

Nothing But Nets

"Nothing But Nets" is a grassroots campaign to save lives by preventing malaria, a leading killer of children in Africa. While the UN Foundation has been working with the UN to fight malaria for years, it was a column that Rick Reilly wrote about malaria in Sports Illustrated, challenging each of his readers to donate at least $10 for the purchase of an anti-malaria bed nets -- and the incredible response from thousands of Americans across the country -- that led to the creation of the Nothing But Nets campaign. This campaign was featured during the season premiere of Ugly Betty on Friday, 16 October, from 8 to 10 p.m. EST on ABC in the United States. The episode aims to raise awareness about the “Nothing But Nets” campaign

The reaction to Reilly's 815 words made clear that thousands of people were ready to help the million children dying unnecessarily each year of malaria. Within a few short months, Nothing But Nets raised over 1 million dollars. And so Nothing But Nets was born.
Fact: Every 30 seconds a child in Africa dies from malaria.
What you can do ? Send a net, save a life. It’s easy, right? So, how exactly do you get involved? What if you want to do more than make a donation? We need your help to spread the word that a $10 donation can save a life. We want to make it easy to get your friends, family and community involved in Nothing But Nets.
